As expected, the new Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, has come out with bumper activities immediately after he took over the charge as such. In fact he had completed his home work on several issues much before he finally took over as the Prime Minister of the country and there lies the secret of the innings he has been able to make most successfully at the outset itself. A small comparison shows his predecessor miniatured to a mere nullity, rather in a minus direction. He emerged as a great statesman in his dealings with the immediate neighbour Pakistan making it abundantly clear to their Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that it is the development and not the terrorism which is the dire need of the day. He asked the Indian Railways authorities to prepare and submit their road map within ten days obviously to be processed to its positively logical end. There was a crackdown against the train ticket booking agents cancelling their registration with immediate effect which step is an instant relief to the railway passengers. Appointing a committee to find out the ways and means of unaccounted for money lying in different foreign banks is a landmark decision and a great step the country needed for much longer a time. Permitting Pakistan to open its branches of bank in India is another measure initiated to develop harmony in bilateral relations between the two countries. The way the new Prime Minister has initiated steps on different counts is enough of an indication that there are several such measures in the offing in the interest of the people of the country, a very happy sign indeed. Media channels have all along been championing the cause Narendra Modi had in his hand and the very spirit on their part is effectively intact but it is time for them to exercise some restraint while picturising the issues, more so in the context of India’s relations with the neighbouring countries. Some news papers had the tone and tenor of highlighting the talks between Indian Prime Minister and the Prime Minister of Pakistan as that of victor and vanquished diplomatically while praising Narendra Modi which should in fact have been in a modest order. Hail Modi.
