If Sanjai Dutt still has any scope to escape the punishment?

The necessary verdict having been pronounced in Bombay blast case, the death sentence of the main accused is upheld and some minor relaxations and enhancements in punishment in respect of the others have been made. Sanjai Dutt’s 6 years jail term has been reduced to 5 years. Sanjai Dutta is now left with no recourse but to knock several gate ways for his complete acquittal or reduction in jail term. There are different opinions varying from one person to another. Some say he can very well file his appeal for complete acquittal to the Governor of the State, Maharashtra. There are others holding a view that since his was a serious criminal case, it doesn’t fall in the requisite categories worth consideration. There are also opinions that he can very well file a review petition before the Supreme Court, or even the President of India. Nothing has yet emerged to surface to indicate as to which option is going to be resorted to by Sanjai Dutt himself. Conduct and behavioural pattern of the individual concerned along with his social service status are normally the considerations while reviewing such cases, and one factor is quite clear that Sanjai Dutt qualifies on these considerations. He is a top star of Bollywood conducting him so well on the fronts of the social service and entertainment. In a way, he is a great asset to the Nation. His conduct during the time he had to pass in jail both at Mumbai and Yarvade jail in Pune was exemplarily excellent. Even when he had to work as a carpenter there, he did the job well and to the full satisfaction of the jail authorities. There are instances in the past when the Governor of the State of Maharashtra had to intervene and acquit the accused. Country wide famous case of Nanavati is a well known example to the people in India. Sanjai Dutt’s is a case worth consideration by all measures.

  1. SIR, I AM SORRY, I BEG TO DIFFER WITH YOU ON THIS. AS FAR AS MY UNDERSTANDING GOES, THERE IS ONE LAW AND IT IS APPLICABLE TO ALL INDIANS IRRESPECTIVE OF THEIR RELIGION/CASTE OR SOCIAL/FINANCIAL STATUS. GRANTING A PARDON OR REDUCTION OF TERM WILL SHAKE THE VERY FOUNDATION OF OUR JUDICIARY AND DEMOCRACY. DISGUSTING TO SEE ALL THIS PANDERING ESPECIALLY FROM POLITICIANS. IN THE EVENT SANJAY DUTT IS PARDONED, NOT ONLY THE SOCIETY WILL GET A WRONG MESSAGE, BUT IT WILL BE AN INSULT TO THE INJURY OF BOTH THE RIOT VICTIMS AND THE BLAST VICTIMS OF BOMBAY BLAST CASE.

  2. Sir I am fully agreed with you that Sanjay Dutt deserves con-donation as he is not a criminal. But the process of law should not be hindered. I like to remind the Shiwani murder case in which R.K. Sharma an I.P.S. officer was main accused. The prosecution demanded death penalty for him. But the Supreme Court awarded him life term imprisonment and observed that Mr. Sharma is a vibrant officer and is an asset for the Nation so he can not be hanged. So sir Mr. Munna Bhai should also honor the judicial verdict gracefully.
