Main accused of New Delhi gang rape case, Ram Singh, ended his life in his ward in the jail. This is what is reported by the media. No body is certain whether it was a suicide he committed, or he was a victim of some conspiracy. If suicide was to escape the tortures of likely punishment, the other remaining five accused may fall in line with him. There is also a possibility that since he was the main culprit behind the incident taking the lead in perpetrating the heinous act, he could have played an active role as an approver, and for that reason some conspiracy might have been hatched to eliminate him. The apparent reason that has emerged to surface is that this suicide was the result of a blatant lack of necessary security, and there appears to be some substance in it as reportedly Ram Singh was a handicapped person incapable of managing his self hanging by himself. The window containing the bars to which the rope was tied for the purpose was on the top of the cell’s height, and the job was impossible for a man who himself was handicapped unless effectively assisted by others including the security staff. In the circumstances like this, the possibility of some kind of manoeuvring to eliminate the accused can’t be ruled out.
