Now another scandal in the name of copter deal!

India, thy name should be the country of scandals as there is hardly any amongst the developed world who could beat you on that count. Those born during Bofors scandal have become old enough now but the sequence of events related to it continues to be still fresh, and every now and then there is some news or the other to supplement it. There are yet events to supplant this scandal looking like a brand new version of much bigger a magnitude, for example the scandal of Copter deal. Defence Ministry of India appears to be a great hub of the things of this kind. The deal may be scrapped if there is any thing wrong in it, says Antony, the Defence Minister. This has possibly become an order of the day for the Indian Government to do or undo the things only when there is a big furore from the side of media and the public as a whole. If India loses its integrity like an individual does, is it restorable?, and if such a damage is of a recurring character taking place off and on, is it corrigible?. A deal of this very type was earlier rejected by the American President, Obama, on the ground that it was very costly and not commensurate with necessary quality for the purpose. How amazing?, what was rejected by America was found quite suitable by India. If necessary sequence on that count is taken in to consideration, India looks like an individual who has a taste for a stale food. Wake up India, wake up.

  1. I know most good Hindis are outraged by the corruption. But, honestly, in my opinion that corruption is global. Very few countries are free of it from their politicians. The Americans, likely some of the worst? They might be just better at hiding it? Their corruption has as much stink as the everywhere else, it seems. I could point people to some, but this is about helicopters for India.

As much as I have reservations around the mahatma Ghandi. Some things he did for India, were very considerate, intended to help the greater population. He tried to demonstrate that, through his life. By not using machinery, like bulldozers, etc. Would bring greater employment. That cottage industries depending on hand-crafting would do likewise. Of course there was the salt. The taxes imposed by the authority – british were similarly corrupt and untenable. I’m sure you know better than I?

War brings greater profits than peace. Which is why authority wishes for war. The machines of war, will never bring peace. Like the Canadian government wishing to buy american F-35’s. Calculated to cost the tax-payers more than 25 billion dollars Canada with a population of 34 million people. Men, women and little babies. How much does that calculate to cost each person? Around 800 dollars each person?

Likewise the trickery of nuclear weapons. Each nuclear reactor while bringing power. The price is not cheap. Each reactor is a disaster waiting to happen. The poison they emit causing us sickness.

The nuclear weapons politicians tell us we must have? Is just another way of robbing us, the tax-payer. Weapons never to be used. That just continue to be an unnecessary burden. A way to siphon off tax-money, into more corruption and enslavement. Like those helicopters from Sweden and Italy and F-35’s from America. More schemes to siphon off public monies, for wars we do not need. …. see George Orwell 1984. Pretend wars, to keep the public frightened.

    1. I am quite in agreement with you that corruption is a global factor and it can’t be a solitary country to be isolated for blame but, as it appears to me, India is much on a hyper side..As always, every time I go through your individual comment I feel like I am coming across a treasure house of ideas and thoughts. No words are enough to express my gratitude to you for this.

      1. Maybe it’s the diaspora of extreme wealth to the poorest of the poor. Which highlights this crime of corruption? Especially from a country that has produced some of the greatest philosophers and keepers of spirituality, in the world. Just enhances, the most obvious of evil doing? Who knows?

I cannot stop those from robbing us. They likely know it? What I can do, is stand in solidarity against them. Those who prey upon the honest people of the world. Those who do the crime, will do the time. If not in this world but the next. Karmic law, dictates that. By selling their souls for the baubles of this world, will not ease the next life. They will find the ashes and discontent repeated over and over. Until they can work themselves free, of evil’s clutches.

        Thanks neelkanth!

  2. SIR, YOU ARE VERY CORRECT IN YOUR ASSESSMENT. THE BAD NAME FOR CORRUPTION THAT INDIA HAS EARNED OVER THE YEARS….ESPECIALLY THE WAY ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT FUNCTION … DOESN’T HELP, BUT WHAT IS UNDENIABLY IS THAT THE ERUPTION OF FREQUENT SCANDALS IS DISRUPTING INDIA’S ARMS ACQUISITION PROGRAMME. THIS CAN HAVE A NEGATIVE EFFECT ON OUR DEFENCE PREPAREDNESS. THIS IS HARDLY A DESIRABLE STATE OF AFFAIRS FOR A COUNTRY THAT FINDS ITSELF IN WHAT HAS BEEN DESCRIBED ASS THE WORLD’S TOUGHEST NEIGHBOURHOOD. WHEN SUSPICION OF WRONG-DOING IS AIRED IN PUBLIC, THE GOVERNMENT RUNS FOR COVER, AND THE OPPOSITION SEES AN OPENING. TYPICALLY, THE CBI IS WHEELED OUT TO CONDUCT AN INVESTIGATION WHICH DRAGS ON UNTIL THE NEXT SCANDAL BREAKS. THIS IS THE WAY THE AGUSTA WESTLAND VVIP HELICOPTER DEAL LOOKS SET TO GO. BUT WHAT IS IMPORTANT IS THAT WHEN PARLIAMENT DISCUSSES THESE MATTERS, IT ALSO EXAMINES THE IMPORTANT ISSUE OF APPROPRIATE PROCEDURES FOR DEFENCE PROCUREMENTS, KEEPING IN MIND THE LONG TERM VIEW, OTHERWISE SCANDALS WILL SPELL DISASTER FOR DEFENCE.
