Devils are not a commodity to be imported to earth from some other planet, they are very much available in plenty here only within the civilised society itself. Enough time has passed since the mishap of New Delhi gang rape case occurred. This mishap was enormously condemned all over the country, it rather assumed the proportions of a national mourning. The sad incident was not only condemned throughout the world, it rather drew the attention of all and sundry in most unprecedented a measure putting behind many a historical events of national importance in the recent past. The victim was hailed as an icon of courage and bravery. But there were exceptions too ridiculing the victim herself instead of condemning the rapists, a full fledged gang of six men including a minor, most of them being from Bihar (India), and thus putting both the State concerned and the Country as a whole to an utter shame on the world map. Son of the President of India, Abhijeet Mukherjee, passed ridiculous remarks against the women participating in demonstrations against the incident at India Gate in New Delhi, Mohan Bhagwat, RSS Chief blamed the victim of crossing the ‘Lakshman Rekha’ as if it was she, and not the rapists, who was responsible for the ill act. Adding fuel to the fire, it is now Asha Ram Bapu, a so called religious guru of Gujarat, who has joined the bogey of ill talkers. His utterances belie those of the ones made by most wicked a person. He went to the extent of saying that the victim should have addressed the rapists as her brothers and touch their feet to pardon her. Pardoning for what? Nothing can be more silly and absurd than such of the suggestions in the context of the heinous crime so committed. Asha Ram Bapu conveniently forgot that one of the rapists only called the rape victim initially as ‘Sister’. ‘Sister’ and ‘Bhaiyya’ both have lost their relevance now in the eyes of the rapists and other offenders in as good a manner as saints and sadhus of the country, who pose to be good at every thing except the age old oriental saying:
“Yatra nariyastu pujyante ramante tatra devta” which means that wherever ladies are respected, gods live there.
Most of the saints and sadhus of India are known for their shady character. The aforesaid saint was the talk of the people only recently for his alleged masterburation techniques. The remarks so passed by this sadhu coupled with those of Mohan Bhagwat, Abhijeet Mukherjee and a few more like them are highly derogative to the dignity and honour of the women and they require to be condemned at a large scale. Their remarks also are denotative of their tendency to support the rapists in which context they also should be legally proceeded against for promoting perpetration of heinous crimes like rape.
