The one who butchered several dozens of men, women and children mercilessly, Ajmal Kasab has now filed a mercy petition to the President of India to spare him his life. Awarded death sentence for his heinous crime by the court, he filed an appeal before the Supreme Court of India, which was rejected. As a last resort, he has since filed a petition for the consideration of the President of India seeking his mercy to grant him a pardon. He is granted a pardon or not by the President is altogether a different matter, as there are several political considerations to over shadow all decisions at every level in our country, and it is just an utopian thinking that the office of the President of India is an exception to it. The cases of the nature like Kasab’s are already there pending with the highest office of the country getting withered away for a long time. The case of Kasab too is most likely to go the same way. In fact the very motive behind submitting mercy petition is to take full advantage of the government’s dilly dallying tactics, and there Kasab’s is a successful move manoeuvring the things in his favour. His life is dear to himself, and so it was in the cases of those whom he callously killed. A slightest possible element of mercy in him could have spared life to many, but he was sans it as it did not relate to himself. His credentials as such deserve not the least of a pardon, and the minimum possible punishment for him is nothing but death, rather death like tortures to be applied on him as many times as the number of innocent people he killed.
